Draft Countdown: 21 Days

By Nick Hill/Special to The Call, Du Quoin Evening Call

Saturday, March 22, 2008

Hello again to everyone in DuQuoin, this past week I had my pro day at SIU on Tuesday and on Wednesday I flew to Chicago to meet with the Bears.

The pro day went really well. Eight different NFL teams came, with two teams sending two scouts. I ran my best 40 yard dash at 4.66 seconds.  We had to do everything indoor at the rec center due to the weather, however I was still able to throw. I felt like I threw the ball really well.

The scout from the St. Louis Rams also put me through a few footwork drills. All in all, I think it was a very successful day and it helped me out. I'm hoping I will get some follow up workouts from individual teams.

The visit with the Chicago Bears was great. I was picked up from the airport by a stretch limo and taken to their football facilities in Lake Forest. While I was there I met Genereal Mangager Jerry Angelo, Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner, Quarterback Coach Pep Hamilton, and Head Coach Lovie Smith. Lovie Smith is as nice a guy in person as he seems on TV. It was nice to get to meet and talk to everyone in person to get a better feel for everything.

I also started student teaching this week in Carbondale. It's a nice change of pace, and I really enjoy the classroom I am in. I will continue to work out on my own, staying in shape in case someone wants to work me out again.

Until next time, take care!
