NFL Dreams

By Nick Hill/Special to The Call, Du Quoin Evening Call

Saturday, March 15, 2008

To everyone in DuQuoin, this past Wednesday was the first of my two pro days. There were around 20 different NFL teams on hand, and I felt the day was very successful. I ran well, running the 40 in 4.72 seconds, and threw around 25 passing completing all but two.

I was hoping to break 4.7 in the 40, but I will have another shot at that on Tuesday at SIU.  Although running a good 40 yard time is important, the most important thing is throwing the ball well. Scouts want to see you make all the throws, have good drops in the pocket, get the ball out quick, and be accurate. I feel I did all of these things well on Wednesday.

Now my attention is turned to Tuesday, where I will do everything again at SIU. I will have the chance to run a couple agility drills I wasn't able to do at Illinois and also throw again. I am looking forward to competing and working out again.  If there is one scout there or 20, I am ready to prove to them I have what it takes.

On Wednesday, I will be flying to Chicago for my visit with the Bears. I am excited for the opportunity to sit down and talk with the coaches, giving them the chance to get to know me as a person.

I will then be back to student teaching in Carbondale. I will workout on my own, keeping myself prepared in case a team wants to come work me out individually. It's hard sitting around not knowing what teams are really thinking, but I guess that is part of the process.

Until next time, take care!
