The Rio Grande Valley Dorados snapped their three-game losing streak Saturday night, edging the Corpus Christi Sharks 51-48 on the road.
The Dorados (6-4), who are now 3-0 against the Sharks (2-9) this season, benefited from standout performances from receiver Bret Smith and quarterback Nick Hill. Smith caught seven passes for 94 yards and four touchdowns. Hill was 15-of-28 for 248 yards with five TD passes and one interception.
RGV took control of the see-saw game with 6:14 remaining when Hill found teammate Derrick Harris for a 46-yard touchdown.
Corpus Christi quarterback Sedale Threatt, who was making his first career start, punched in a 1-yard score with under a minute remaining to bring the game to within three points after Nick Gatto's extra point. The Dorados recovered an onside kick with 43 seconds left to close out the game.
The Dorados sacked Threatt a season-best five times and one of the take-downs was a safety.
The Dorados return to Dodge Arena in Hidalgo on June 20 to host the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m
